چکیده

In recent years an inverse problem of determining optical parameters of air-water system from the remotely sensed spectral radiance of water has deserved much attention in the field of environmental monitoring. Particularly, optimization approach to the inference of optical properties of subsurface water from the measurements of multispectral scanner data of the sea has been developed analytically and computationally. In the present paper, making use of the invariant imbedding, an initial-value solution of the transfer equation in air-water system with allowance for the interaction of radiation at the system j,nterface is provided. The Cauchy system of the scattering function under consideration requires much computational works. In order to make tractable the inverse solution, we introduce the effective water surface albedo into the Cauchy system of the scattering function for the specular reflection problem, allowing for the multiple scattering effect of radiation in the water. Then, the least squares estimation of the effective water surface albedo from the noisy measurements of the total spectral radiance of water from space is made via the quasilinearization. The nemerical experiments showed rapid cOnvergence of the desired results. Based on these data, aqueous optical properties such as chlorophyll concentration and turbidity will be discussed in our subsequent papers.

Water Body Detection and Delineation with Landsat TM Data

The aim of this project was to determine the accuracy of using simple digital image processing techniques to map riverine water bodies with Landsat 5 TM data. This paper quantifies the classification accuracy of single band density slicing of Landsat 5 TM data to delineate water bodies on riverine floodplains. The results of these analyses are then compared to a 6-band maximum likelihood classi...

Geospatial method for computing supplemental multi-decadal U.S. coastal land-use and land-cover classification products, using Landsat data and C-CAP products

This paper discusses the development and implementation of a geospatial data processing method and multi-decadal Landsat time series for computing general coastal U.S. land-use and land-cover (LULC) classifications and change products consisting of seven classes (water, barren, upland herbaceous, nonwoody wetland, woody upland, woody wetland, and urban). Use of this approach extends the observa...

Demonstrating Landsat’s New Potential to Monitor Coastal and Inland Waters

The Operational Land Imager (OLI) is a new Landsat sensor being developed by the joint USGS-NASA Landsat Data Continuity Mission (LDCM) that exhibits the potential to be a state-of-the-art instrument for studying inland and coastal waters. With upgrades such as a new Coastal Aerosol band, 12 bit quantization, and improved signal-to-noise, OLI will be spectrally and radiometrically superior to i...
